Managing Editor

This is a full-time position with the Cincinatti-based Roadtrippers.com, reporting to the Editor-in-Chief.

The Managing Editor role is critical to the operation of the "Magazine" content on Roadtrippers.com, primarily published on "Chronicles," which will soft relaunch in summer 2018.

Duties include:

  • Commissioning, editing, and managing a stable of freelance contributors.
  • Writing occasional features, as time and subject allows.
  • Managing an publishing calendar in conjunction with the EIC.
  • Coordinating the creation of "Trip Guides" inside the Roadtrippers.com planning tool that align with and echo the content of freelance travelogues.
  • Fact-checking, top-editing, and copy-editing content in conjunction with the EIC.
  • Writing occasional small blog posts that suit the Roadtrippers.com audience.
  • Assisting in the scheduling and coordinating the creation of advertorial that lives within the magazine channel.
  • Assisting in the publication and creation of "Road Tales" video content.
  • Assisting in photo editing and selection.

This position does not preclude occasional outside freelance work by the ME for other publications, with per-piece approval by the EIC.

It is anticipated that "Chronicles" will publish one reported feature, one service feature, and 5-10 small blog posts a week (from contributors in-house or freelance).

For context, Roadtrippers.com is part of TH2, a conglomeration of companies owned by Thor Industries, which aims to create a full-service platform for travel and road trips, especially (but not exclusively) for travelers who use recreational vehicles. While Roadtrippers.com has had many permutations of editorial teams in the past, this is the first attempt to launch a magazine-quality editorial channel.

This role can be performed from anywhere in the United States, but will require frequent travel both to Cincinnati and the Midwest, in addition to other points-of-interest across the country.

The ideal candidate must love the open road, discovering not just tourist attractions but the stories and people behind them, as well as open-minded and honest perspectives about the endless ways humanity lives and dreams in America. A love for vehicular-based travel is also critical: at its heart, Roadtrippers.com isn't just about the destination, but the places in between. We exist to help the 222 million people in the United States with a driver's license turn their dreams into drives.
