Lead API Engineer

Role Responsibilities

Roadtrippers is looking for a Lead Engineer for our API team to help us write code that simplifies the complexities of travel discovery at scale.  As the API Lead Engineer, you will work with both internal and external stakeholders to build the best APIs for finding and serving up great place data.  You will need to take complex geo-data concepts and simplify them into powerful abstractions that are quick and easy for other developers to implement. You will need to make sure that our APIs are robust and scalable.  Over time, you will start to grow and mentor an API team.

Qualifications

  • A love of travel, especially road trips!  Knowledge of RV'ing is a plus!
  • 5 years professional development experience
  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience)
  • Experience growing or working on a highly available web service at scale
  • Experience with full stack web development and versatility across client, server and database
  • Comfortable using Git and Linux command line
  • Understanding of native web app architecture and modern frameworks
  • Familiarity with mapping SDKs and geospatial data is a plus
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a plus
  • Our tech stack includes: Ruby on Rails, React, Mapbox, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Elasticsearch, Redis, AWS, and Ansible.  Experience is beneficial, not required.
